Who are we?

.

Feb 1989 The Warehouse (in Grimsby), then owned by Terry Jackson. Saw the birth of Grimsby Country Music Club founded and registered by John Stafford and Gordon Smith.

They asked Ken Garner (Maverick) to bring some cowboys in to the club, one of which was Dave Goodlad,

It was Dave Goodlad who named the group “The Missouri Raiders” and also formed a Civil war group called “Carol County Civil War” (no longer in existence).

The Warehouse was sold and their next home was the Mariners, eventually they moved on to Darley’s.

John Stafford due to illness passed on the Grimsby Country music club to Malcolm and Karen Davis, which is still going strong.

About 1991 there was a split resulting in, Alan Rouse (Pat Garrett), and Sid Lucas (Sundance Kid) carrying on the now Missouri Raiders.

Meanwhile the Raiders had moved on to another venue, .the Wheatsheaf on Wednesdays until it was turned into a restaurant, they then went to the Solway Club remaining there for three years until moving to our present home in June 2000 and in late 1993 the Spiders Web Cleethorpes every Sunday, until it became it became to great a task to run two venues in a week whilst running out door camps.

Over the years, members have left and gone there own way, one even starting his own group, having learned his craft as a Raider.

Today’s Raiders still carry on the tradition of the original members and are endlessly working to raise money for charity, This is done by running a Live Country Music evening every Tuesday at Lucarlys Wilton Road Humberston, where we run raffles, name cards, open the box and last man standing, we have the best venue in the area, the concert room is second to none, well decorated and air conditioned no plastic chairs here, also the stage is high up so the listeners can see over the dancers, unlike some clubs where you cannot see the artists.

Our other source of funds come from day camps at fetes galas etc, where we set up a western camp and perform a re-enactment or shootout often involving members of the public, we also provide games for adults and children, while running an excellent tom-bola.

At this present time we also have our own annual western camp which in the near future will be increased to two per year, if you would like to visit us you are more than welcome, the camps are open to all on Saturday mornings and for a small fee you can join in all the fun and games.

Basically we dress in the 1800s period, after the civil war. This leaves a wide range of scope for the various outfits you may see us wearing, from range dress to uniforms.

We are also members of The British Westerners Association

If you would like to join us at Lucarlys you would be most welcome, you do not need to dress authentic you just need to enjoy yourselves.

Where are all you line-dancers? Come and have a whirl round our dance floor.
